ACTIVITIES FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
The following activities are available to students of Southern Arizona colleges and universities.  Contact a SABHCOP representative for more information.

Summer Medical Education Program (SMEP)

The Summer Medical Education Program is a free summer program designed to enrich the education of talented, under-represented minority premedical students. SMEP students are provided with the opportunity to study in an active clinical environment allowing them to examine their future in medicine and strengthen their skills in applying for medical school. By helping minority students become more competitive candidates for medical school, SMEP is working to increase the number of minority physicians nationwide.

Pre-Health Professional Research and Education Program (PREP)
PREP is available to college students attending Northern Arizona University that have completed at least one semester and have a strong interest in a health career profession. The program is designed as a six-week residential academic and research program involving completion of two college courses and clinical rotations at local healthcare agencies. Students will live in an NAU-Flagstaff campus dormitory and earn four college credits while enhancing their study skills and learning more about health career options.

Health Professions Speaker Series
Twice a month guest speakers provide students the opportunity to explore various health careers, hear about job settings, educational requirements, and more.

Academic support
SABHCOP will pay for students to participate in University-sponsored tutoring in subjects necessary for health professions programs. Workshops such as study skills or time management will help students to excel in their course work.

Preparation for graduate study
SABHCOP provides students with study manuals and will sometimes pay for the University of Arizona preparation courses. Participants will also have access to a library of resources in conjunction with study manuals for further preparation. SABHCOP staff can assist students in mock interviews for the graduate school application process. Students can also participate in the experience of interviewing in a workshop setting.

FACES internship
This program provides exposure opportunities in medical, dental, and community health care. SABHCOP staff arrange for internships at approved sites for students participating and registering in the FACES internship program.

Financial aid advising and referral
SABHCOP will assist students in filing a FAFSA form or provide the students with a resource list of financial aid and scholarship websites.

Community service activities
SABCOP can provide shadowing opportunities, community heath fair training and implementation, and volunteer opportunities working with middle school, high school, community college, and university students who are also interested in health careers.

SABHCOP college newsletter
The newsletter highlights student activities in the communities and provides students with an upcoming listing of college events.
